Pokemon CP and IVs explained

There's a common misconception on how CP relates to how good a pokemon is, and while it does relate with how powerful it is, it does not relate to the max potential power the pokemon has, which is really important at higher levels. One overlooked status of pokemon that people often ignore is the IVs (individual values) of the pokemon. The pokemon's IV measures how good the breed of the pokemon is and how close its stats will reach it's max potential at max levels.
Everyone pokemon has three hidden stats: Attack, Defense and Stamina (HP) which each can be anywhere between 0 and 15. So a perfectly bread pokemon will have the stats of 15 Attack / 15 Defense / 15 Stamina (100% IV).
Small example; a Vaporeon has a max CP potential of 3157CP (at max trainer level 40).
That's IF it has perfect 100% IV (stats).
If your Vaporeon has 90% IV (let's say, hidden stats of 14 Attack / 14 Defense / 13 Stamina), it will never reach that max CP of 3157 because these lower hidden values are holding it back from this potential.

Well how do you check your pokemon's IV you say? You can use third party apps to do this. The safest and best one we found is called Poke Genie. You can download it for iOS or Android in the link below.
